Sarah and Andrew Mitchell are organising a one-day hockey tournament on Saturday 23rd May 2026 at the Scottish Hockey Centre of Excellence at Peffermill, Edinburgh. To raise money for Little Hearts Matter. The only UK charity established to support those affected by a single ventricle heart (half a heart). Their first daughter, Sophie, was born with this condition in 2015 and sadly died at just six weeks old.
More on Sophie’s Story is here.
This tournament, Sarah and Andrew expect, will take their fundraising in memory of Sophie to a total of £60,000.
There will be six teams participating: Kinross Hockey Club, Drifters Hockey Club, Watsonian Hockey Club, Forging Strength Kinross (gym), University of Edinburgh hockey alumni, and Edinburgh Academicals. We expect around 100 to 120 players in attendance, plus supporters and spectators.
Peffermill has a spectator stand capacity of 300.
Each team has committed to fundraising £625 and has an individual page that feeds into our group page. All donations go directly to Little Hearts Matter, including Gift Aid if applicable. Business donations are deductible for corporation tax.
We are hoping to secure shirt sponsors who will match a team’s fundraising up to a maximum of £1,000 (if the team go over their £625 target).

To make tournaments and fundraising a success we rely on the generosity of businesses to:
- Gift raffle prizes in the form of products/services or cash.
- Gift cash sponsorship for sports equipment.
- Gift cash sponsorship for catering.
- Match donations raised by their chosen team.
In return we can offer:
- Branding on hockey team shirts, and on our social media and marketing communications.
- Recognition and thanks in our follow up communication with players and supporters.
The success of our activity will enable:
- Little Hearts Matter (registered charity #1123290) to support families facing the rare and severe single ventricle heart condition. Just as they were the only organisation in the UK able to do so for Sarah and Andrew in 2015. They support families along every step of this journey, from initial diagnosis, through treatments and into life at home.
- More people to become engaged in sports and exercise. Hockey across Scotland and the UK is in decline. For Kinross Hockey Club in particular, this summer tournament is an excellent opportunity to get more people engaged in our club and in hockey.
