Why?

To raise funds for Little Hearts Matter, the only UK charity dedicated to supporting those affected by a single ventricle heart – or half a working heart. In 2015 Sarah and Andrew Mitchell’s first child, Sophie, was diagnosed with this condition. Sophie survived seven surgical procedures, but at 5.55pm on Sunday 25th October she had a fatal cardiac arrest and lost her battle.

Here is a short radio interview on Original 106fm giving a brief overview of why Sarah and Andrew are doing this.

How: Fundraising?

Sarah and Andrew have a fundraising target of £60,000.

£25,000 of was raised in 2015 for The Royal Hospital for Children and Crossbasket House in Glasgow.

In 2025-2026, remembering Sophie ten years on, Sarah and Andrew have so-far raised £25,000 for Little Hearts Matter.

We would like to raise £10,000 from Summer Hockey for Sophie for Little Hearts Matters; and would like each team to try and raise £625 through a JustGiving page. Our intention is to find a sponsor for each team who will match all funding raised up to an agreed limit.

The hockey team that secures the most donations will win a special prize, to be revealed on 23rd May at the tournament.

Sophie Emily Mitchell. 14th September 2015 – 25th October 2015.
